Full Membership is open to any indigenous evangelical missions agency — denominational, interdenominational or non-denominational — that satisfies the following:

  1. Be in complete agreement with the Association's statement of faith and members' basic conducts/standards, and be willing to sign it.
  2. Have at least four missionaries in a cross-cultural setting.
  3. Submit a copy of their constitution to the Association's office.
  4. Have a well-organised Board or Committee that regulates and controls all their missions activities.
  5. Have leadership and financial support that is mostly indigenous.
  6. Subscribe to the aims, objectives and activities of the Association by signing the prescribed form.
  7. Fulfil their financial obligations to the Association.
  8. Be of good repute among other evangelical missions agencies.
  9. Have no political affiliation or ethnic exclusivity.

A group applying for Full Membership may be admitted as an Associate Member if it fails to meet all the conditions, and may subsequently be upgraded upon satisfaction of all the criteria.

Associate Membership is open to any indigenous evangelical missions agency — denominational or interdenominational — that satisfies all the conditions for Full Membership except condition (2). In this case, a group must have at least one missionary in a cross-cultural setting.

An Associate Member may be upgraded to Full Membership at any stage upon having at least four missionaries in a cross-cultural setting.

Special Membership is granted to two categories of groups: indigenous Christian organisations performing services supportive of missionary endeavours within Nigeria; and foreign missionary groups or subsidiaries working within or from Nigeria.

The following conditions apply:

  1. Be in complete agreement with the Association's statement of faith and members' basic conducts/standards, and be willing to sign it.
  2. Submit evidence of involvement and/or activities supportive of missions endeavours within Nigeria.
  3. Have a well-organised administrative body that regulates and controls their activities.
  4. Submit a copy of their constitution to the Association's office.
  5. Subscribe to the aims, objectives and activities of the Association by signing a prescribed form.
  6. Fulfil their financial obligations to the Association.
  7. Be of good repute among other evangelical missions agencies.
  8. Have no political affiliation or ethnic exclusivity.
  1. Mission agencies and related bodies may apply only after incorporation with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (or with evidence that incorporation has commenced).
  2. Prospective members apply in writing for information and an application form from the Association's Secretariat.
  3. Completed forms are reviewed by the Executive Committee, which may include an interview.
  4. Full acceptance is at the General Assembly, after which registration fees fixed by the Executive are paid at registration.
  5. New members are on probation for 12 calendar months, after which membership is formally ratified with all responsibilities and privileges.
  1. The Association may deny or withdraw membership from any group whose membership it feels would be injurious to its aims, objectives and mission statement.
  2. The Association gives three months' notice to any erring member before terminating its membership, where such action is proven to be in the interest of the Association, other members and the general missions movement in Nigeria.
  3. At least three months' written notice is given to the Executive Secretary by any member agency intending to withdraw, stating the reasons.
  4. Where a member agency persistently violates the constitution, the General Meeting will dismiss such a member.
  1. Before entering a new area, thorough survey of the field and consultation with mission groups working there shall be made.
  2. Where existing agencies are handicapped in resources, they shall not hinder others from getting involved in the area.
  3. Unhealthy competition and duplication of efforts shall be avoided, and no "sheep stealing" shall be entertained.
  4. A released worker from another agency shall not be accepted by another NEMA member agency without prior consultation with their former agency.
  5. No agency shall accept a staff member of another NEMA member agency under discipline into its employment.

The General Assembly holds twice a year, during the first and last quarters. Voting power is vested in official delegates:

  1. All Full Members have 3 seats, one of which must be the CEO of the agency as official delegate.
  2. All Associate Members are entitled to 2 seats at each General Assembly.
  3. Special Members have one seat each.
  4. Registered representatives receive all correspondence on behalf of their agency and attend all General Assemblies unless practically impossible (communicated in writing).
  5. Member agencies are entitled to subsidized fares/fees or payment waivers, where feasible, on Association events.
  6. Members have privileges over non-members in matters of international and local assistance, contacts and ministry opportunities.

Privileges include: attending NEMA conferences and seminars; receiving minutes, newsletters and materials with access to NEMA resources; accredited delegates at the National General Assembly; reasonable subsidies for events and professional services; and recommendation by NEMA for internal or external aid when needed.
