More than Conquerors. Romans 8: 28 – 39
NEMA Mont of Missions Devotional
Sunday 5th February, 2023
To live life, as I have often said, is to declare war. These battles are unpleasant but unavoidable encounters as far as life here on earth is concerned. When you think you are coming out of a battle, another is confronting you. In order not to become faint-hearted; you need to realize that Scriptures have a profound submission to cheer us up; it says, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” [vs. 37].
The believer in Christ Jesus is both a child of God and a soldier of Christ all at the same time. Believers are not just children playing around aimlessly. When you read Church history you will understand that the Church was not born a weakling. The Church of Christ needs to know this. “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory” [Romans 8: 17].
It is important we have a holistic understanding of the plans and purposes of God, and not be one sided in our faith and understanding of the Word of God. We will not go far if we have such understanding. Realize that whenever you shout victory, it means you are ready to fight. This is because; if there is no fight, there will be no victory. If you do not have a problem to contend with, you wouldn’t be talking about victory.
Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church, California, USA says; “There is no testimony without a test”. Testimonies come because you had a test God helped you overcome. Overwhelming victory is yours in life through Christ because of His sacrificial death on the Cross that gave us hope beyond the grave.
Christianity does not begin and end here. If it does, then it is expendable and has no meaning. Apostle Paul puts it beautifully when he says; “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable” [1Corinthians 15: 19]. Christianity goes beyond this life and unless you understand the Christian faith from eternal perspective, you will not go far. This is because there are a lot of contradictions in life that can throw you off balance. Also, understanding and standing firm on your rights and privileges in Christ, obtained for you through His death and resurrection gives you victory.
Prayer Focus: Help me Lord to courageously face the battles of life, in Jesus name, Amen.
